Holistic Wellness
What is Holistic Wellness?
The dictionary definition of holistic is “the philosophy characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole.” So in regards to wellness that means that we need to consider all parts of a person in order to get an accurate understanding of the whole person.
Why Does it Matter?
Have you ever heard someone complain about not being able to lose weight even though they are exercising like crazy and they think they’re eating well? It’s very common actually. They are focusing on their physical body but might not be considering their stress level which would affect their mind, body and soul. Or maybe they aren’t getting enough sleep which would also have a huge impact on all those things. Your thought life also greatly affects what happens in your body and your soul.
Body, mind, emotions and soul are all intimately interconnected. What happens in one area affects the other areas. Wanting to be holistically well means you realize this and you are open to talking about and evaluating how you are doing in all those areas. It ultimately does not work in our favor to have blind spots.
I believe we are beings created by God. Everything He’s given us, our minds, bodies, souls, and emotions, are ours to manage well while we have them.
